O is for Online Classes

| April 13, 2014

For the first time I have been taking an online class. Though, much of my work for other classes has been online, having this class be exclusive to this world makes it feel different. Without the classroom setting the whole concept of a class seems strange.  Is it there when there is no actual physical presence or physical interaction? Is its worth equal in value to other classes? It provides what other classes provide, organization when it comes to learning. There is discussion, a set of dates for assignments, and assessment. Yet, I don’t see them beyond the screen. At the same time as making me more accountable for my learning it is making me feel less so. It is more so because I have to be more in charge of when I do work and less so because without the physical there is no sense of urgency. Online classes are definitely changing the way education looks. I just can’t figure out if it is a benefit or detriment.
