Z is for Waking Life

| April 23, 2014

Because what can you use for Z anyway. Think of it more like Z(zzz) like you’re sleeping. Anyway this movie is worth the jump. It’s actually pretty hard to describe if you’ve never seen it but essentially it’s an animated film but uses a very distinct form of animation and the “plot” follows a young man through a dream world where he’s never really and you as the audience is never really sure if he is in fact awake or asleep. Throughout the film the main character encounters many different people expressing many different philosophies about dreams, life, love, religion, reality, society, etc etc getting at a lot of the “big questions.” It’s a cognitively and visually thrilling aesthetic experience, and is one of those movies that no matter how many times you watch it you find something new and incredible hidden within it.
