R is for R.E.M.

R is for R.E.M.  Specifically, the song Electrolite.  Over the past week, I have listened to this song non stop.  Something about it is so beautiful to me.  Even though it isn’t visual beauty, it produces the same time of appreciation in me.  I studied poetry in college, and as a result I always seem to pay careful attention to song lyrics.  These lyrics really stick with me, and combined with the lovely melody, each time listen to the song becomes a very emotional experience for me.  I have been trying to figure out the meaning (or meanings) behind the lyrics, but they are ambiguous and I have read several different accounts.  The melody is steady, sad, and haunting—but the lyrics seem almost optimistic.  I’d love to know if anyone has any answers or opinions.
