R is for Rewind

Rewind, the process of winding the magnetic tape inside a cassette backwards to a previous point on the reel

Future generations will never see this message

Or do that

Or witness this beauty

Or this one.

There is little point to this post, except to say that the aesthetics of old technology are appealing to me, if only for the sake of nostalgia. Today everything is so streamlined and fast that there is little time to be mad at the technology like I remember being (the solution was usually to hit the item until it reacted). As hideous and unappealing a lot of these images are, they are reflective of a time of great technological change, and a specific time in history where a specific generation encountered new technologies like this for the first time. I would say that’s pretty interesting.
